Warm weather helping Albany ice cream business

Emack and Bolio's is scooping up extra profits on ice cream this winter thanks to the unseasonably warm weather.

"It's been great normally we slow down during the winter but we haven't this winter, sales have gone up 25 percent," said employee McKenzie Bourque.

The Saint Rose student said she's had to replace two tubs of ice cream every shift, normally it's about two tubs a week.

"Usually we bring a book maybe some homework when it's slow but I haven't been able to do any studying, for me but it's been unfortunate but great for Emacks," said McKenzie.

Customers are also excited; cravings for these types of treats usually come in July not February.

"I'm having ice tea right now because I'm warm instead of my usual hot tea for February," said Dawn Lenahan.

However, ice cream parlors aren't the only ones benefiting from the weather.

In North Greenbush homes are being built every day.

"It's more of an extended fall than it is a winter; it allowed us with the lack of snow to put in many foundations like normal construction, unlike a normal winter," said builder Mark Van Vleck

Contractor sandy Shuhart said last winter they were forced to stay home three days a week but this year every day is a working day.

"The weather is fantastic I'm hoping the rest of the winter for the next 20 years are like that," said Shuhart.
