TROY, N.Y. - A Troy woman was arrested after striking a public safety officer for RPI with her vehicle and fleeing the scene early Saturday morning, police say.
Troy police say 22-year-old Paris Scott, of Burdett Avenue, was arrested after RPI Public Safety was dispatched to the area of 71 Albright
Court on the school campus to assist with a medical call. As Troy Fire administered medical aid at the location, RPI Public Safety
conducted routine ID checks of people present.
Officers saw three people, including Scott, leave the rear of the address and asked for ID from them. Two of the persons complied, however Scott continued to walk away approaching her car as police say the officer repeatedly asked her for ID. The officer reminded her that the RPI student handbook requires students to "provide ID when requested by faculty
and staff." She continued to her vehicle, remarking "You can't do anything and you better not
touch me" and "what are you going to do, arrest me?"
At this point the officer told Scott that he would obtain ID info from her vehicle
license plate; the officer walked to the rear of the vehicle, certain she
was well aware of his presence. However, according to police Scott started the vehicle, put it in
reverse and backed into the officer as he yelled for her to stop.
The officer
was struck in both legs as he slid off to the side of the vehicle as the car continued backwards. The officer then yelled to Scot, advising she had
struck him and to stop immediately. She then fled.
A BOLO was immediately issued, and Scott was located by Troy Police in the area of Fulton and Fourth Streets. She was arrested and charged with Reckless Endangerment 2nd-degree, Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, Improper signaling and unsafe backing.
The officer was treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
