MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The state of Vermont is appealing a federal judge's decision blocking its efforts to close the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant.
Attorney General William Sorrell announced Saturday that his office had filed an appeal with the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York of Judge J. Garvan Murtha's decision last month.
Murtha ruled that the Vermont Legislature's move to close the state's lone reactor was improperly motivated by safety concerns. Federal law makes nuclear safety the sole jurisdiction of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
