Dr. Paul Wright
ALBANY, N.Y.--Albany police say 42-year-old Dr. Paul Wright was originally arrested and charged with forcible touching in January, after an investigation into what happened at the Hampton Inn hotel in downtown Albany in October.
Police say Thursday's arrest stems from the same case, the charge of forcible touching was thrown out and replaced with sex abuse, a misdemeanor, based on the evidence provided.
According to the police report, the victim says she woke up in Wright's hotel room and he had his hands on both of her legs.
Police say she was unable to defend herself, and reported it the next day.
"If there was any question, especially in sex abuse cases with crimes like that, you want to be sure everyone is credible," says Albany Officer James Miller. "That's why it was investigated over two months."
Police say Wright and the victim were in Albany for a conference, the SUNY Charter Schools Institute confirms Wright is no longer an employee.
He had been appointed to the position of Director of School Evaluation in January 2010.
