DANBY, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say it could be some time before investigators are able to determine the identity of the woman's skull found by the side of the road in Danby.
Detectives and others scoured the area along Danby Hill Road on Wednesday where the skull was found on Sunday by a passer-by, but they found no additional clues.
The medical examiner's office says the skull appears to be that of a young adult Caucasian female who could have been the victim of a crime.
Police are checking records to see if the skull could be from any open missing persons cases.
Police noted two particular cases: the 1991 disappearance of Heidi Wilbur from Middletown Springs and the 2004 disappearance from Montgomery of Brianna Maitland.
