Catskills road damaged in tropical storms reopens

Posted:

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York transportation officials say a key road in the Catskills has been reopened after flooding damage was repaired.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says Route 42 in Greene County is the last of the roads and bridges to reopen after being damaged by the late-summer tropical storms Irene and Lee.

Final paving will be completed in the spring, when the weather is warmer.

State transportation officials said Wednesday the design and construction phases of project were combined in a single contract to speed completion of the work.

That was allowed under a post-storm executive order from Cuomo. It would otherwise have taken more 6 months to finish.
