New York State Police are looking for a man posing as a water authority worker who stole an elderly woman's jewelry.
The crime occurred in Clifton Park on Tuesday afternoon. The man was pretending to be an employee with the Clifton Park Water Authority.
He told the 90-year-old woman that she had faulty pipes and needed to check on them. Once she allowed him in be took an undisclosed amount of jewelry.
"We pride ourselves to take proper steps to ensure the safety of our customers but this is clearly something we're not pleased with," said Helmut Gerstenberger, of the Clifton Park Water Authority.
He said the victim wasn't even one of her customers and this should have never happened.
"We have company vehicles that have water authority on the outside of their vehicle, they wear uniforms and they also have photo ID's so we really want to make sure that no one allows anyone into their home under false pretenses," said Gerstenberger.
State Police are conducting the investigation and continue to look for the suspect.
