EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. - The East Greenbush Police Department says they pulled over a stolen vehicle on Sunday night in which an 11-year-old boy was driving.

Police say an officer was watching traffic on Route 4 when he observed a Mercury Marquis smoke its tires after being stopped at the intersection of Route 151 in East Greenbush.

When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, he was unable to see the driver, as if the driver has slid down the seat or was trying to hide what he was doing.

The car was eventually brought to a stop a short distance later, and that is when the officer noticed the driver was only a 5'4'' boy and barely able to see over the dashboard.

The 11-year-old boy was removed from the car and taken into custody.

An investigation revealed the Mercury had been stolen earlier in the day from the vicinity of Madison Avenue and Ontario Street in Albany. Police also recovered various property from inside the Mercury that had been stolen from other vehicles parked on the same street.

Albany police located the owners of all property including the car and all property was returned to the rightful owners. No damage was reported done to any property. No injury was reported by any persons.

The youth was released to his mother and will appear in Family Court at a later date.
