ALBANY, N.Y.--The Albany County Legislature confirmed Tom Marcelle as the new county attorney Monday night, but not before getting an earful from dozens of people for and against the controversial candidate.
Marcelle sat in the county legislature chambers during a two hour public comment period, with some people saying his conservative personal views might cloud his ability to provide unbias counsel.
The key point of the argument against Marcelle's nomination by Albany County Executive Dan McCoy, is his ties to the Alliance Defense Fund, a national conservative organization, which opposes gay and lesbian rights and women's reproductive rights.
Other stoodd up in support of Marcelle Monday night, saying he has always put his clients' interests first and will do the same for Albany County.
Marcelle says his approval by the legislature 27-10 is enough confidence for him to move forward in his new role as counsel for the county.
Marcelle is a republican, the county legislature is primarily democratic.
