ALBANY, N.Y. – A Troy man charged with receiving child pornography was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a federal court judge Monday.

In December of 2010 Logan Klotz, 30, was arrested by N.Y. State Police and the FBI in connection with a child pornography investigation. Klotz pled guilty to one count of receiving child pornography on July 26th, 2011.

When arrested, investigators seized a homemade tower computer which contained two hard drives as well as numerous external hard drives from Klotz's home. Forensics identified more than 100 video files depicting child pornography on those hard drives; according to court documents.

Another court document shows the dialogue between Klotz and two investigators from shortly after Klotz's initial arrest.

Investigator: "What would you say were your favorite age for kids?

Klotz: "It would depend on the day, some days it would be 13 to 17-years-old, other days younger."

Klotz: (Unsolicited) "I guess my attraction to younger kids is kind of like mint chocolate chip ice cream, if you like that a lot and you keep having to get it, that could be a problem."

Investigator: "That would be a good comparison I guess, if society said that mint chocolate chip ice cream was morally wrong."

Klotz: "Well that's our society."

Investigator: "What society on this planet says that having sex with a two-year-old is not wrong?"

Klotz: "I guess you're right."

Prosecutor and Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Belliss says he had hoped Klotz would get 15 years in jail, instead of 10.

"We get a lot of child pornography cases in this court," Belliss said. Belliss says Klotz's case is unique because of he had written several emails about wanting to molest his young niece.

During the hearing Klotz read a statement that started with "words can not express how sorry I am" as he apologized to the victims of child pornography and thanked his family and wife for their support. He also mentioned that he'd been going through therapy to get help.

U.S. District Court Judge Thomas McAvoy acknowledged that Klotz has no "hands on" offences, no history of criminal activity and is a good citizen except for one character flaw, pedophilia. McAvoy says Klotz is a danger to society and needs to be punished for his crime.

Klotz will undergo a rehabilitation program during his 10 year prison sentence and will face 15 years supervision following his release. The Judge also ordered that Klotz have no unsupervised contact with minors and to register with the New York State Sex Offender Registry Program.

When NEWS10 approached Klotz and his attorney they both declined to comment.

Klotz will start his prison sentence on March 11th, 2012.
