Vt. man pleads not guilty to violating order

Posted:

BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man has pleaded not guilty to 88 felony counts of violating an abuse prevention order.

Prosecutors argued at a hearing for 49-year-old Roger Lajoie of Bennington on Wednesday that he should be held without bail because of the number of times he made contact with his wife, whom he was not allowed to speak to under the order.

The Bennington Banner reports (http://bit.ly/zxmYMP) Lajoie is accused of calling his wife from the Marble Valley Correctional Facility. His wife testified Wednesday that she wants to have contact with him. Lajoie's lawyer said that that was her decision, but a prosecutor disagreed.

The judge took the matter under advisement.
