BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - An audit of the Southwest Vermont Career Development Center recommends consolidating some services and decreasing non-teaching staff.
The nearly 50 recommendations are not mandatory. The Bennington Banner reports Commissioner of Education Armando Vilaseca, who requested the study, said it is up to the school board to use the report as it sees fit. Recommendations include consolidating services offered by the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union or Mount Anthony Union High School.
Vilaseca has been a longtime proponent of consolidating districts to create more efficient education systems.
Center Chairman Jim Boutin said the board will decide at its next meeting how to proceed.
Earlier Monday, the Southwestern Vermont Education Association, which represents teachers at the center and is in a pay dispute with administrators, said discussions about the report were premature.
