HILLSDALE, N.Y. - A Hudson man has been charged with murder in the death of a 73-year-old Columbia County woman.
21-year-old Shafiquel Islam, of Hudson, was arraigned on Murder 2nd-degree Tuesday, accused of strangling and killing Lois Decker in her Hillsdale home on November 20, 2011.
Police say Islam crashed a stolen car, which turned up to be registered to Decker, and then took off in a second vehicle.
As part of the investigation into the accident, police attempted to contact Decker about her vehicle. When they were
unsuccessful contacting her by phone, they went to her residence at 18
Cold Water Street in Hillsdale, where they found her dead.
Islam is a Level 2 Sex Offender and is currently on parole for a 2008
conviction and three year prison sentence from a felony offense of
Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child Less than 17.
