Jacob Hooper
ALBANY, N.Y. - An Albany man pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Tuesday for the death of another man he struck while fleeing from police in October 2011.
30-year-old Jacob Hooper pleaded guilty to Manslaughter 2nd-degree, a felony, in Albany County
Supreme Court Tuesday, Albany County District Attorney David Soares said.
On October 30, 2011, Soares said Hooper was driving a stolen SUV that Albany officers attempted to stop after it was observed for committing various traffic infractions.
Hooper failed to stop and instead fled at a high rate of
speed, driving through multiple red lights and stop signs.
While travelling through the intersection of Main Ave. and Western Ave. at
almost 90 miles per hour, Hooper crashed into a car being driven by the victim, 62-year-old David Concordia of Voorheesville,
who had the green light and was travelling at approximately 22 miles per hour.
The victim sustained massive fatal head injuries due to the crash. The victim's
19-year-old son, Patrick, was a passenger in the car and received minor
injuries.
Hooper faces 7 1/2 to 15
years in state prison in addition to court fees and restitution for any
uninsured expenses when sentenced in March 2012.
