CANAJOHARIE, N.Y. –When a film crew showed up at General Electric's plant in Schenectady Ron Folmsbee, a Turbine Bucket Assembler, said he didn't think twice about it.
"They came down to my area and they liked what they saw and liked what they heard and the rotor was behind me and it's moving, flashing and they said that's a good place to set up so they started asking me questions," Folmsbee said.
The commercial showcases him saying he "always liked working with [his] hands." Folmsbee, longtime resident of Canajoharie says he truly does like good hard work and he's proud to build the turbines that produce energy world-wide.
Folmsbee says it wasn't until the film crew stuck around for a while that he realized there was something more going on than just a regular commercial. General Electric had teamed up with Budweiser to shoot a advertisement to air during Super Bowl 46.
"I said whoa, I don't even drink beer, so I don't know how that's going to play out and the director kind of laughed and said they could work with it," Folmsbee said.
The 46 second ad will air to an audience of an expected 120 million people. The Super Bowl is the most watched program of the year, and definitely not something this small town guy from Canajoharie says eh ever planned to play a part of. His family say's they're so proud.
"I think it's cool," Folmsbee's son said.
"We watch [the Super Bowl] for the commercials," his daughter said.
"I'm so excited for him," his wife Rebecca said." This year we're going to be watching for the GE commercial."
Folmsbee says he's just glad to be showcasing the company he's been a part of for years; creating the energy that runs homes and businesses, and keeps refrigerators cool world wide.
The commercial makes reference to GE's "power" when a man asks a GE employee if they make the beer. The employee says "no, we make the power that makes the beer."
"After the Super Bowl, they'll just forget about me and hopefully they'll remember the company and what we do and Brad Pitt won't have to worry about me in his business," Folmsbee said.
Folmsbee says though he's truly a Red Skin fan, he'll definitely be rooting for the Giants this weekend.
