ROTTERDAM, N.Y. - A local Air Force Cadet returned home Thursday after a two and a half year deployment and surprised her younger sister at school. Megan Gibson has been serving in the U.K.. The reunion took place at the Bradt Primary School in Rotterdam.
"She knows the Megan that went to college. She knows Megan. She doesn't know Gibson and Gibson was the air force sister. So she doesn't know what I look like in my uniform. It was a little bit tough. I was a little worried about her recognizing me," Meghan Gibson said.
The cadet's mother, Audrey Holden, organized the reunion and set up the surprise. Her 5-year-old daughter, Gaby Holden, goes to the school.
"Those first few phone calls were really, really tough. Basic was really difficult for her. But she did amazingly well. But having her so far away and knowing she's going to deploy soon is a little bit harder than I thought it was going to be," Audrey Holden said.
The cadet, Megan Gibson, has been stationed in the U.K. for nearly three years and recently gave birth to a baby girl. Holden says this is also the first time she is meeting her granddaughter.
