TROY, N.Y. - One night after being found not guilty on second degree murder charges regarding the death of Rosemary Crosier, George Mott was back at home in Troy with his family.
"Hell, it's been hell, because I knew the first day they arrested me I had nothing to do with this at all," said Mott, regarding the last eight months he's spent in jail, including the two week trial and four days of deliberations.
Mott was ecstatic over Wednesday night's not guilty verdict, but he admitted he was prepared for the worst.
"They do put innocent men in jail everyday and I was like, ‘oh here they go, my life is done,' I wouldn't drag my wife through that so I would have to tell my wife she has to go on her way, we would have to split up," said Mott.
Mott said his life will never be the same after this trial. He had family members testify against him.
"To sit there and see my family testifying against me like that, it just tore my guts out, especially because I only have one brother, and to see him sit there, it brought tears to my eyes," said Mott, who doesn't believe he'll ever talk to some of his family members again.
Mott also said he doesn't know who has had it tougher these last eight months him or his children. "They were pretty stressed about it too because dad is in there, they're getting grief from school, other kids in school picking on [my son], saying, ‘look at your dad, look at what he is,' so they had a hard time too," said Mott.
It was acknowledged there was also another family in the courtroom that night, those of Rosemary Crosier. "I feel bad for the Crosier family what ever animosity they got with me or whatever," said Mott. "I wish them the best of luck to find out who did this to their mother."
