The jury began the day Wednesday by asking for another read-back of Jay Gilbert's witness testimony. Gilbert is a former friend of Mott, who testified that he lived with Mott at the time of the murder and says he remembers him coming home covered in blood.
Tuesday the trial almost ended in a mistrial, after initial reports said one juror brought a dictionary into deliberations and one juror admitted to having a relative that went to school with Mott years ago. However, the judge denied all motions for mistrial and deliberations continued.
During deliberations on Tuesday, jurors asked for three testimony read-backs. Two from friends of Mott and one from Mott's own brother, John Mott, who testified the defendant told him about driving the car to the murder scene, but never mentioned knowing about a robbery or murder.
Jurors in the case heard more than two hours of closing statements on Friday, before they began deliberating on a verdict in the two-week-long trial consisting of testimony from more than 20 witnesses.
Crosier was found bludgeoned to death at her workplace, a Troy group home for disabled adults, back in March, 1994, part of an apparent robbery. 17-years later, Mott and 34-year old Scott Chaplin, both of Troy, were arrested in the spring 2011 and charged in the death.
Chaplin's trial is expected to begin in April 2012.
