Solar to power Doane Stuart

RENSSELAER, NY (WTEN) – The Doane Stuart School is going greener with the help of 100 solar panels.

School officials announced Tuesday that they have contracted with Monolith Solar Associates of East Greenbush to install the panels to the flat roofs of the 1939 addition to the school.

The 25,920 Watt Net Metered, Grid Tied Solar Electric System is estimated to produce 31,104 KWH of power annually. The school could see a reduction in energy costs of up to 30 percent.

"This is yet another step toward overall sustainability, and our dedication to the environment, with the added benefit of boosting funding to our curriculum and outstanding teachers in the process," said Headmaster Dr. Richard Enemark. "It is truly a win-win."

Installation of the system will begin in April, with a targeted completion in May.
