Ryan Braender
Robert Costello
NISKAYUNA,
NY - Police in two local counties
say they have the men responsible for some jewelry thefts and a bank robbery.
The M&T Bank in Niskayuna
was robbed on Thursday morning. Police say a man entered the bank and demanded
money. Police arrested Robert Costello, 30, of Watervliet in connection with
this robbery. He was arraigned on charges of Robbery in the Second Degree and
Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree. He was remanded to the custody of the
Schenectady County Sheriff's department with
no bail.
Police believe he had an accomplice, Ryan Braender.
Braender, 29, of Amsterdam,
is currently being held in Montgomery County Jail. He is charged with Robbery
in the Second Degree and Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree for his involvement
in the M&T Bank Robbery. He is also facing Grand Larceny charges in the
City of Amsterdam and Robbery/Grand Larceny
charges in the Town of Amsterdam.
Both incidents involve the theft of jewelry and jewelry stores.
However the bank robbery is not the only alleged crime
police believe Costello and Braender committed. They say there are at least two
others.
Police believe Costello and Braender were involved in the
robbery of Segel's Jewelers in Amsterdam and the
robbery of another jewelry store inside an Amsterdam mall.
Law enforcement from across the Capital Region pulled their
resources and cornered the two men in the basement of a Schenectady home. Police believe the two men
might be responsible for other thefts in the area.
