State Police arrest two for arson in Kinderhook

KINDERHOOK, NY (WTEN) - Jozef J. Ortiz, 18, of Valatie, and a 15-year-old male of Kinderhook were arrested Monday in connection with a series of fires in the Town of Kinderhook between January 12 and 14, according to State Police in the Livingston Barracks.

On Saturday, the Niverville Fire Dept. responded to a 1:30 a.m. call at the Napa Store on Route 9 in the Town of Kinderhook. A utility vehicle was fully involved.

An investigation of the blaze determined the cause as arson, and troopers from Kinderhook and Livingston, along with BCI at Livingston, arrested the suspects.

They were charged with 1 count each of Arson in the 3rd degree, a Class C Felony. Investigations in other related crimes are ongoing, and numerous other charges are pending.

Ortiz was arraigned in Town of Greenport Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail or $30,000 bond.

The 15-year-old was issued a Family Court appearance ticket.
