Composites industry seeks workers in Vt. town

Posted:

BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - An official with the Bennington County Industrial Corporation says a number of companies in the Vermont town that make light-weight composite materials used in the production of cars and other products are looking for trained workers.

Peter Odierna says the half-dozen companies that make up what's being called the "composite cluster" currently employ about 500 people.

Odierna tells Vermont Public Radio the companies are getting ready to grow in response to demands for lighter, more fuel-efficient vehicles and equipment.

But some of the companies have complained about the level of employee turnover, and the difficulty of finding trained workers.

The Community College of Vermont in Bennington is offering courses in computer literacy and communication. And the Bennington Career Development Center is offering technical training.
