Posted: Updated:

GREENPORT, N.Y. - The Rip Van Winkle Bridge has reopened after reports say one person is presumed dead after jumping from the bridge late Wednesday morning.

The NYSDOT reports that the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, NY 23, closed in both directions for police activity. The bridge is on the Greene County-Columbia County line.

Columbia County, NYS Police, and Greenport Dive teams are in the Hudson River assisting to recover the body, believed to be a man.

Sources say some personal belongings were found near a suicide hotline telephone on the pedestrian walkway.
