READSBORO, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man is facing charges he burglarized his aunt's Readsboro home and stole a ring valued at about $20,000.
Vermont State Police say that 19-year-old Dylan Hoyt, of Bennington, was cited Wednesday after admitting he stole the ring and then tried to sell it at a jewelry store in Massachusetts.
The victim, Deborah Ernst of Readsboro, reported Dec. 23 that her home had been burglarized several times in the last several months and jewelry worth a total of "several hundred thousand dollars" had been stolen.
Police say the property consisted of rare Tanzanite gems, diamonds and gold jewelry.
Ernst told police she confronted Hoyt at his home and while there she discovered several items that had been stolen from her home.
Most of the jewelry remains missing.
