BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont nursing home is closing after more than 50 years in operation.
The 21-bed Prospect Nursing Home in North Bennington is expected to close at the end of January.
President and owner Peter Morris tells the Bennington Banner that only a handful of residents are left in the home.
He said the environment for nursing homes isn't good. Morris said the impetus of the state over the last 15 years has been to reduce nursing home beds, get people into homecare with Medicaid waivers or into assisted-living community care - less costly options.
