TROY, N.Y. - After a number of disturbances at Broadway Brew police say they're a step away from being shut down by not one, but two government entities; the state and the city.
Since November 19th, the police have submitted three referrals to the State Liquor Authority for problems at the bar; two for disorderly conduct and one for a code violation.
Captain John Cooney says if one more complaint about the bar is made to the city. The bar's owner will be subject to a Nuisance Abatement hearing which could mean the end for the bar.
Cooney says his biggest concern is that a large amount of police recourses that are being diverted to the bar on a weekly basis, creating a lack of security in other parts of the city.
On November 19th, 2011 an incident reports states that 100 people gathered on the street in front of Broadway brew. One person was wielding a knife and two people were injured. No arrests were made.
On the day before Thanksgiving, November 23rd, 2011 police counted approximately 211 people inside the bar, the posted occupancy was for 121 people, a report states.
Later in November, reports show there was another large disturbance on the street. That originally came from Broadway Brew.
Cooney says the most notable disturbance at the bar happened on December 19th, 2011. All police units were called to respond to a massive fight coming from Broadway Brew. There were about 100 people involved and 30 people actively fighting when police arrived on scene. Five arrests were made and four people were prosecuted for disorderly conduct.
