Schenectady service for teen who died in hit and run
SCHENECTADY, NY - A special service on Friday night celebrated the life of a teen who died after being hit by a truck in Schenectady.
19-year-old Cassandra Boone was hit and killed while she was crossing a street in Schenectady in November. 34-year-old Anthony Gallo was later arrested for the accident.
The gathering inside Apostrophe Cafe at Proctors wasn't about mourning. Instead, her boyfriend Joshua Santana organized the event to reaffirm her life, her creativity, generousity and compassion. Santana says, "This type of event was really to bring a celebration of her. To show people that when someone dies that doesn't mean you should be grieving in a negative way."
Friends and family are working together to set up a scholarship fund in Boone's honor and plan to hold similar events moving forward.
