ALBANY, N.Y. - Long-time public official and former Albany County Sheriff George Infante died on Monday morning. He was 92-years-old.
Infante had been serving as an Albany County legislator, but chose not to seek re-election this year, officially ending his term on Sunday at midnight.
He died Monday morning.
Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple was sworn in Sunday, January 1st.
"George transcended all political parties to work for the people of New York State as a Trooper and as a Deputy Superintendant of the State Police, and the people of Albany County as Albany County Sheriff and a Legislator," Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy said. "Albany County is a far better place today because of the wisdom of George Infante. He will be sorely missed."
Visitation will be Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 4-8pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home at 490 Delaware Avenue in Albany. The Funeral Service will then be held Friday, January 6, 2012 at 9:30am in Historic St. Mary's Church on Capitol Hill, Lodge and Pine Streets, Albany.
