FULTON, N.Y. - A yogurt manufacturer, FAGE USA, is looking to expand in Fulton County, investing millions of dollars in the region and creating hundreds of jobs, but a disagreement between two cities in the county is threatening the plans.
The City of Gloversville says the development cannot go forward until the the cities clear up the issue of a sewer-use agreement, dating back to 1964; but Johnstown officials fear the delay is going to push FAGE away from the area.
FAGE is looking to buy a two-acre plot of land at the Gloversville-Johnstown Wastewater Treatment Facility, in Johnstown, in order to expand the yogurt plant and build a new $20 million facility; a crucial step in the company's $100 million expansion plan that could bring 200 jobs to the area.
However the two cities involved, Johnstown and Gloversville, jointly own the land and city leaders are pointing the finger at one another.
A number of local business owners gathered Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. at the Fulton Montgomery County Community College for a roundtable discussion to try and urge the two cities to come together to work out a deal for the land sale.
