COLONIE, N.Y. - Colonie Police Chief Steven Heider has confirmed that toxicology test results on 32-year-old Chad Brothers show that he had a mix of drugs in his system at his time of death.
The drugs included steroids and PCP.
Brothers died on October 31st when, according to Colonie Police, Brothers raged out of control at a Gold's Gym in Latham, punching another patron in the face and turning over gym equipment.
Colonie officers who responded claim they were unable to restrain Brothers and ended up stunning him several times with a Taser. Heider said that Brothers appeared to even tase himself.
Brothers later died at the hospital. Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares says after review of underlying circumstances and medical reports, it has been determined that Brothers died of a medical condition known as agitated delirium.
Soares says that based upon review of the Colonie Police Department and their response to the incident at Gold's Gym, it has been determined that they acted appropriately and professionally under the circumstances.
Chad Brothers' brother, Frank Brothers, spoke to NEWS10 ABC last month and defended his brother saying the behavior was out of character. He also called him a good man.
NEWS10 ABC reached out to Colonie Police and Chad Brothers' family. They have not commented at this time.
