DUANESBURG, N.Y. - State police have confirmed that a fatal car accident occurred on I-88 Thursday, closing off the highway between exits 23 and 24 eastbound for the morning.
Police say the accident involving a tractor trailer and two cars happened around 7:26 a.m. when the tractor trailer was rear-ended by a Honda CRV. After becoming dislodged from the trailer, the Honda moved into the passing lane and was struck by a Saturn sedan. The Saturn became airborne, landing down an embankment on its roof.
The driver of the Honda, 57-year-old Roslyn Labarre, of Howe Caves, was deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Saturn, 40-year-old Bobbi Jo Nelson, of Schoharie, was transported to Albany Medical Center by Rotterdam EMS and did not sustain life threatening injuries.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt.
The highway between exits 23 and 24 has reopened.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. At this time it appears that driver inattention may have been a contributing factor.
No charges are pending against the truck driver.
