ALBANY, N.Y. – Albany Police are investigating a hit and run accident leaving a pedestrian dead on Saturday morning.
The Albany Police Department states that the accident occurred at approximately 1:42 A.M. Saturday morning at the intersection of Quail and Elk Street.
29-year-old Etemowei-James Oki of Colonie was walking across Quail Street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Quail Street.
Oki sustained massive head trauma and was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just moments before 5:00 A.M.
Police say that Traffic Safety Officers responded to the scene and are currently reconstructing the accident. Preliminary reports indicate that a dark green Honda with front-end damage was the vehicle that fled the scene in an unknown direction. It is also possible that the vehicle is missing a passenger-side mirror.
Detectives and officers canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses and video surveillance.
