RENSSELAER - A Rensselaer family of eight lost their home due to fire Wednesday but they are still thankful this Thanksgiving.
"What are you going to do about it we just have to start over," said home owner Chris Kindlon. "Thank God the kids got out alright and everything else can be replaced."
The fire took place on Pine Street around 8 p.m. Inside at the time were Kindlon, his wife and their six children, all between the ages of nine years and nine months. They were all able to make it out safely.
According to Kindlon it started in the basement and was most likely caused by a faulty furnace.
"She went downstairs and saw the smoke, so I went down and looked and I saw some flames in the back room, and it was right next to the gas line so there was nothing I could do so I told everyone to get out and I called 911," said Kindlon.
Kindlon said the home and everything inside is a total lose. However, he won't let it ruin his Thanksgiving, which went on as planned at his mother's house where they are currently staying.
"If they see you are upset and everything else they are going to be upset, so I got to keep positive for the kids," said Kindlon.
