Senator Charles Schumer
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. - Senator Charles Schumer and Congressman Paul Tonko toured the flood damage in Amsterdam Monday morning getting a first-hand look at the destruction caused by Hurricane Irene followed by Tropical Storm Lee.
They made a stop at Russo's Restaurant in Amsterdam, a family restaurant that has been open for 90 years, but has been closed for two weeks since the Irene hit leaving several feet of water inside the restaurant.
The lawmakers also witnessed the damage at the historic Guy Park Manor, the building literally torn apart by the flooding, and saw Lock 11 badly damaged when the force of the water bent several of the steel girders.
Senator Schumer says every effort is being made to get more federal aid to Montgomery County.
