Colonie strip club ordered for demolition

Posted:

COLONIE, NY (WTEN) - A former strip club in Latham may be demolished soon.

Sebastian's is a vacant, pink colored building located at 705 Troy-Schenectady Road. It is between a bank and health complex.

It has not been in operation since the early part of the 2000's.

The Colonie Town Board voted to order the demolition of the club.

Colonie Town Attorney Michael Magguilli tells NEWS10 that the site will be the first target under their new, stronger abandoned property law. He said Sebatian's will be the first because, "it's the one that we get the most complaints about."

It has taken months for the town to enforce the law, as they have been waiting for New York's Secretary of State to file the law.

News of the possible demolition has been years in the making, following many complaints from residents and battles between building owner Charles Rafferty and the town.

Magguilli says the property now cannot be used for anything, except for green space.

Rafferty will have an opportunity to appeal the decision at a planning board hearing to be scheduled. If the planning board upholds the town board's ruling, Rafferty will have to begin demolition with 10 days, and then have 30 days to finish the process.
