Evacuation orders in effect, updated for Thursday, Sept. 8
Schenectady County and the Towns of Rotterdam, Glenville, and Niskayuna, the City of Schenectady, and Village of Scotia are strongly advising residents in flood prone areas to evacuate as a precaution due to possible flooding of the Mohawk River. It is also advised that residents in surrounding areas watch for possible rising water levels.
ROTTERDAM: Schenectady County and the Town of Rotterdam have issued a mandatory evacuation of residents in flood prone areas of Rotterdam Junction and Pattersonville. The evacuation areas include:
· The south side of Main Street in Rotterdam Junction between the Rotterdam Junction Fire Department and Leggiero Lane.
· 1516 – 1600 Main Street
· Ferry St.
· Elm St.
The City of Schenectady: Officials are advising, in the interest of public safety, those areas downstream that are prone to flooding, including the Stockade neighborhood should be evacuated by midnight Wednesday.
As a reminder, those who take prescribed medicines should bring their prescriptions with them when they evacuate.
There has been a voluntary evacuation order issued for the Village of Prattsville, alongside Schoharie Creek and alongside the Bataviakill Creek.
SCHOHARIE COUNTY: HAS LIFTED THE EVACUATION ORDER EFFECTIVE THURS. at 8:30am
However, there is still minor flooding along the Schoharie Creek that is being monitored. Please contact your Local Fire Department for emergency information for your area.
