Police: Man jumps to death from mid-Hudson bridge

BEACON, N.Y. (AP) - State police say they've found the body of a 65-year-old Hudson Valley man who jumped to his death from the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.

Sgt. Robert Hogan says William C. Myers of Middletown drove onto the 135-foot-tall bridge at about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, parked on the Dutchess County side and jumped into the water.

Traffic was slowed for several hours as police divers and helicopters searched for Myers. His body wasn't found until 1 p.m.

Hogan says it isn't yet known why Myers killed himself.
