FULTONVILLE, N.Y. - A Fultonville man was arrested after pointing a gun at a sheriff when authorities went to his apartment due to complaints of loud music.
47-year-old John Cassidy, of Fultonville, was arrested Wednesday, April 13, when deputies responded to his apartment around 11:40 p.m. due to complaints of loud music being played.
When Cassidy did not answer loud knocks on his door, deputies made additional attempts to get his attention visually through a window, in which Cassidy saw the police officer and shut the curtain.
A third attempt was made when the Deputy Sheriff climbed the fire escape to get on to another roof to make visual contact with Cassidy. When he saw the officer, he pointed what appeared to be a long gun at the sheriff.
At this point, the deputies and NYS Troopers established a perimeter around the residence.
Soon after, Cassidy exited the apartment on his own and was immediately taken into custody.
An immediate search of the apartment for other suspects and weapons was conducted. Deputies located and seized the High Point 9mm carbine rifle that the defendant pointed at the deputy.
Cassidy was arrested and charged with Menacing a Police Officer, a felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, a misdemeanor, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, a misdemeanor, and Disorderly Conduct, a violation. He was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $20,000.00 cash bail or $40,000.00 property bond.
