OPPENHEIM, N.Y. - Fulton County Sheriff's authorities and state police along with SPCA from Montgomery County seized 97 dogs from a reported animal rescue on Wednesday.
Authorities went to 771 Lottville Road in the town of Oppenheim, Wednesday at 11:00 AM to seize the dogs from a non-profit reported animal rescue entity, known as Help A Hound Canine Rescue, at that location.
Help A Hound Canine Rescue has gradually accumulated 80 dogs in an area allocated to house just 25. Public complaints and numerous visits from the Fulton County Sheriff's Department ultimately led Help A Hound Canine Rescue to close its operation.
Various breeds were discovered: Pit bulls, basset hounds, bulldogs, Chihuahuas and shepard and lab mixes. Witnesses have reported that the dogs seemed underweight and some had skin problems.
A number of trailers and vehicles were used to transport the animals from that location, including the ASPCA "Mobile Animal Crime Scene Investigation Unit," a specially designed vehicle on which the dogs were examined, evaluated, and treated.
This has been an ongoing case in Fulton County. Fulton County no longer has an SPCA and authorities are struggling to get the animals placed into safety.
Various agencies from throughout the state are assisting the ASPCA in finding a place for these animals to live.
