Callicutt sentenced to life for killing UAlbany student

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for fatally shooting a college student from Long Island during an attempted robbery on an Albany street.

De Von Callicutt was sentenced to the maximum Thursday in state Supreme Court after the father of victim Richard Bailey of Wantagh, N.Y. asked the judge to punish him as severely as possible.

Callicutt was convicted in December of first-degree murder for killing the 22-year-old University of Albany student as he walked home from a friend's house in October 2008.

Bailey's father, former New York City police officer James Bailey, said his son wanted to be a cop.

Two men with Callicutt the night of the shooting pleaded guilty to attempted robbery charges and testified against Callicutt during his trial.
