New York Army National Guard celebrates birthday

LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) - The New York Army National Guard is turning 234 years old on Thursday.

A cake cutting ceremony was held at the State Division of Military and Naval Affairs Headquarters in Latham.

One of the oldest soldiers joined one of the youngest to cut the cake.

They say the youngest soldier represents the future of the army while the oldest represents continuity with the army's history.

Cake cutters used a special calvary saber to cut the cake.
