Albany HS breaks ground on major capital project

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - City officials, students and parents gathered today to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of much-needed renovations to Albany High School.

Work will begin this month on the project's first phase, including the construction of a new three-story 120,000 square foot academic building behind the existing school.

That is set to be completed in 2019.

Mayor Kathy Sheehan spoke at the ceremony, saying improving the school is a vital investment for the city of Albany.

"We recognize a vibrant and vital place here in the Capital Region," Sheehan said.

The entire construction project will have a total of four phases and will be fully finished in 2025.
