Pet Connection Poem - 1994

This poem is dedicated to my first dog "Niki", who passed away this year. I realize how
much that I lost now that he is no longer with us. His memory will shine brightly in my heart
forever. Thanks "Niki" for 12 great years.

Christmas 1994

                              MY CHRISTMAS WISH

                   You took me to the shelter, and you walked away.
                    You broke my heart in two, now I'm just a stray.
                   My life with you was happy, together we were two.
                    My life is now empty, Oh Lord…What can I do ?

                    My eyes close tightly, for I dream of tomorrow.
                 I can no longer sleep, my hearts filled with such sorrow.
                     I've done nothing wrong, so why am I here ?
                       My spirit is broken, in this cage of fear.

                     As the lights go out….there is nothing to see.
                      It is the darkest of dark, I wish I could flee.
                     This must be a nightmare, it just can't be true.
                     I've done nothing wrong, oh where are you ?

                      The door opens slowly and you walk away.
                    My heart pounds quickly, could this be my day.
                  I've been here such a long time, my future's in doubt.
                   Surrounded by loneliness, I dream of getting out.

                    You walk in my direction, and you smile at me.
                      My eyes filled with tears, Love I could see.
                You whispered to the man, and he gave my cage a tug.
                 You opened up your heart and saved me with your hug.

                   I'll wag my tail for you and sit by your side forever.
                  I'll purr my heart for you and we'll always be together.
                  Dreams do come true, to some lucky ones like me.
                MY CHRISTMAS WISH is answered, you've set me free.
