Mark Baker joins NEWS CENTER with 20 years of experience in broadcast journalism. He started as a traffic reporter in Los Angeles before moving into financial news, working for FNN (now CNBC).
A desire to return to his roots in the Midwest prompted Mark to dive into local news when he joined WGEM in Quincy, Illinois. The station won a national Edward R. Murrow Award for its coverage of the Mississippi River flooding in 1993. After a stint at WAOW in Wausau, Wisconsin, Mark and his family moved to the Capital Region in 2006.
Mark's background includes several years in business and economic development in both the public and private sectors. He has also made it a point to be involved in his community, serving as emcee and host to numerous charitable events in the Capital Region.
Mark's hobbies include reading, writing and gardening with his wife, Jackie. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with Jackie and their two children, Amanda and Scott, as well as their adopted dog, a Shiba Inu named Rudy.
