Kurchner speaks at Fly92 Thurs. morning
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - There was a hole in one page of the yearbook handed out at Saratoga Springs High School after officials hurriedly snipped out the portrait of a senior girl whose photo had mysteriously been altered.
Saratoga Springs High School senior Maya Kurchner's yearbook picture was photoshopped to show two gold teeth. She spoke on Fly92 Thursday morning, saying "I started freaking out and I'm like who could have done this or what could have caused this and furthermore, why me?" Though upset over the issue, she has a sense of humor towards it and is trying to focus on celebrating this special time as graduation approaches.
District Superintendent Janice White and Principal Brett Miller met Tuesday morning when several students noticed that Kurchner's picture had been digitally altered before printing. They decided to cut out the picture - and with it, that of the boy on the flip side - before distributing the books.
Miller said Wednesday that Balfour Publishing had agreed to print 1,000 new yearbooks at no cost. "We're continuing to look into this, and we take this situation very seriously," Miller said.
White said school officials are investigating who doctored the photo and how it slipped by yearbook editors, adding that the publisher was not to blame.
