ALBANY, N.Y.-- Hundreds of people gathered at the state Capital on Saturday afternoon to protest assaults on the basic rights of several workers across the country.
The crowd of unionists, students, and other working people came together in solidarity with the people of Wisconsin. They claim that in Wisconsin and other states across the county, Republicans are giving tax breaks to corporations and the very rich, instead of creating jobs.
The group asks for an end to attacks on worker's rights and public services across the country. They want government officials to create jobs for the millions of people who need work and ask that the rich and powerful pay their fair share.
The rally was co-sponsored by New York State United Teachers, the New York State AFL- CIO, MoveOn.org and other labor organizations for working families. It is one of 50 demonstrations that are expected to take place across the country.
