TROY, N.Y. -- A Troy city cop is being hailed as a hero for saving a choking baby on the sidewalk.

Officer Jeff Combs, on the force seven years, was following up on a routine complaint on 10th Street Friday afternoon, but the person he was looking for wasn't home.

On his way back to his patrol car, a woman came running out of the building next door, carrying a baby and screaming for help.

Her 10-month-old baby boy had swallowed a staple and was quickly turning blue.

Officer Combs immediately began the Heimlich maneuver on baby Ethan Boehm, dislodging the staple from his airway.

"All I could think about was, I have an infant child myself, and all I could think about was if he was choking. I could only imagine how they were feeling, absolutely helpless," Officer Combs recalled.

Baby Ethan is doing fine.
