COHOES, N.Y. -- "We came out to look and I was just shocked," Sbrega said.
Sheila Sbrega lives just across the street from where the vandals struck. You can see the anti-Semetic messages with swastikas spray painted all over this fence at the intersection of Vliet Street and Linda Avenue. Many people walking by Monday night shared their disgust and anger.
"This is a disgrace to our neighborhood up here, generally it's a very quiet neighborhood," Mike Riberdy, a neighbor, said.
Chris Rice who lives down the block doesn't want his son seeing this sort of thing.
"We have a nice neighborhood up here and stuff like that should never ever happen," he said.
Police say it happened overnight. The homeowners did not want to talk on camera but tell News 10 the person or people responsible also tagged their car and garage door with this kind of graffiti.
They just moved here recently and the fence is just 30 days old. Police say the vandalism appears to be random.
Police also say there have been other cases similar to this one with hateful messages spray painted on people's property both in Cohoes and outside the immediate area.
Some neighbors tell us they saw police here asking questions trying to find out who did this. Sbrega who has lived here nearly 40 years without any trouble hopes the culprits are caught fast.
"It does make you a little edgy to think something may be going on. It makes you think twice, to look over your shoulder," Sbrega said.
