Cambridge man's MySpace sex arrest not so cut and dry

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- An ex-con from Cambridge has been charged with having sexual contact with a 13-year old Wilton girl. Police are warning parents in the aftermath of the 26-year old Matthew Hart's arrest, but it's also a case that's not so cut and dry.
Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief George Bell says Hart first lured the 13-year old girl to meet him through the social networking website MySpace. He even used the computers at the Cambridge library to go on the site.
Police say the 2 met at least twice in March and engaged in sexual acts.
Hart is on parole for forging checks and is now locked up in the Saratoga County Jail.
"My concern is that if he has one victim, there's probably more.
"I would like to see them come forward," said Chief Bell
But Hart's family members have insisted that he did not know the girl was a mere 13-years old. They say she lied to Hart.
NEWS10 checked the girl's MySpace profile and noticed that it lists her age as 18.
The girl's mother actually caught Hart engaged in acts with her daughter.
When asked what Hart did when she confronted him, the victim's mother said, "He just walked away."
Hart was later arrested.
The unidentified girl's mother told NEWS10 however that Hart also lied, telling her daughter that he was 16-years old.
The mother said she had no knowledge of what was going on with her daughter. Now she has her own warning.
"Don't let your kids go on MySpace unless you watch what they are doing," she told NEWS10.
We also spoke by phone with Hart's girlfriend. She admits the two have had a rocky relationship, but insists that Hart would never intentionally try to have sex with a 13-year old girl.
