COPAKE, N.Y. -- A Columbia County farmer is dead after police say he killed dozens of his own cows before turning the gun on himself.
Police say the body of 59-year old Dean Pearson was found Thursday inside a cow barn on his property along Weed Mine Road in Copake.
State Police say Pearson, who was believed to be despondent over recent personal issues, shot and killed 51 cows before committing suicide in the barn.
The investigation is ongoing.
